Pastoral care is widely taught and shown by Jesus in the Gospels, with just one, yet powerful example, being, “Give them something to eat” (Mk 6:37). Pope Francis also taught us the need for wide and committed pastoral care. He did so purposefully by his actions and enlighteningly by his words. Pope Francis reminds us that ‘Pastoral care should address the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of individuals and families, in a spirit of love and concern. It is fundamental to the ministry of a parish, focusing on bringing the Gospel to people through faith proclamation and sacramental celebration. He stresses active listening and involvement of families in pastoral care, especially during difficult times. The parish is envisioned as a place where the Gospel is shared and the poor are welcomed.’
As the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), we can see the need for this particular pastoral care here in our parish, and we are delighted to have been invited to be part of the PPC, representative of the significant diversity in a parish that we are privileged to enjoy.
